Where to begin???
Bryan and I have been married now for almost six and a half years. Yes, we got married a little young, right out of college, but we would have not done it any other way. We have had a great time it just being the two of us.

All this fun brings us to about a year and a half ago. We both decided that “something” was missing. We felt ready for the next step…to have a baby. So we decided to start trying. Well, sometimes things don’t always work out the way that you envision them happening. I never imagined that we would have problems. So after almost a year of trying I shared my concerns with my doctor and she decided to put me on a fertility drug called Clomid. I thought for sure we would get pregnant with this. I took Clomid for three months, each month increasing the dosage. After the three months, they took me off of it and said that usually if you don’t get pregnant after three cycles of the medicine, that it’s probably not going to work for you. So, she recommended that I go and see a Fertility Specialist. When she told me this I started to cry and I remember thinking, “How can I be broken? I have always done what was right. Why me?” I left the office upset, but decided to make the phone call and setup an appointment at the Fertility Clinic.
In late November we went in for our first consultation with the doctor. He told me not to worry and that our case was not serious, and that he could have me pregnant next month if that is what we wanted. Bryan and I decided to go with the slowest of his three options that he gave us. We decided to not get on any fertility medicine or injections just yet, and instead just have the doctor closely monitor me and my cycle to figure out exactly why we were having problems. So the testing began. We did ultrasounds, dye tests and so many blood tests that I had a permanent bruise on my left arm. After two months, and all the tests coming back normal he came to conclusion that for some reason my brain was not communicating correctly with my ovaries, so therefore I was not releasing a mature egg every month. He told me that I might release one or two this year, but to get the timing just perfect on that instance would be difficult. So he recommended that we start the injections with hCG at the beginning of my next cycle in February to make me release eggs. I was very nervous about this, this is what I had been dreading…I don’t like medicine (unless absolutely necessary) and I was afraid of having multiples like quadruplets (since the chances increase substantially on the injections). I really wanted it to happen the natural way, but all of this had been stressing us out and we really wanted this…so I said it sounds like a plan.
Well, February came and Bryan and I left for Lake Tahoe on February 2nd for our annual ski trip over Superbowl weekend. We had a great time on the trip. We saw more snow than we ever have there…it was beautiful!
Well, on Superbowl Sunday I started my period. This was sort of bad news since I needed to be in Houston on the 3rd day of my cycle to start the injections, and we were not coming back for another five days. But I thought, “Oh well, what’s another month when we have come this far already.” When we got home I called the doctor and told him that I had started, and he told me that we were now going to have to wait till March. So February became a very fun month for me. I became sort of carefree about the whole issue. Bryan and I had a lot of fun parties to go to, Rodeo season tickets, an A&M Basketball game, and a Matchbox Twenty concert. We were busy all month having fun.
The end of February started approaching and I had to go into the clinic for my teaching visit on how to give the injections to myself. At the end of the visit I asked about getting a pregnancy test before I actually order these $1300 injections that have to be overnighted to me. They told me that it was too early to do one, but that if I don’t start in a week to come back and they will do a blood test. That was a Tuesday. On Friday morning I woke up and saw that I started. I walked through the bedroom and told Bryan that I had, and that I needed to call the doctors office and order the shots so they could ship them with Saturday delivery. He stops me and tells me that maybe I should take a home pregnancy test first. My response was, “Why? It’s just going to be negative like all the other hundreds that I have taken.” But to satisfy him I go and pee on the stick, look at it and declare that it’s negative, as usual. I go out to the living room and make my phone calls. Good…the shots are ordered, and I have a doctor’s appointment on Monday morning. By this time Bryan is walking out the door to work. So I go into the bathroom and start to clean up. I pick up the pregnancy test to throw it in the trash and I take a quick glance at it. Wait…is there a second line there? No…there can’t be. It’s really faint. Am I imagining this? I blinked hard and then stared at it some more. Finally after what seemed like five minutes of staring at it I picked up the phone and called Bryan. I explained to him that, I think that there is another line on the test. He replies with, “You think, or there is?” I said “I think.” I get off the phone with him and call the doctor; the nurse tells me that I can come in for a blood test if I want to. Of course I did! I get in the car and drive straight there. They draw blood and tell me that I should hear from them this afternoon with the results. (By the way, this was the longest afternoon ever!!!)
I go to work and have my cell phone in my pocket just waiting for it to vibrate. Lunch comes and goes and still no phone call. It’s now almost 3pm…I’m in the bathroom (I had just sat down) and buzzz…buzzz! I answer it. The nurse says…”Congratulations, you are pregnant! It’s very early, maybe three weeks, but the pregnancy hormone is there. Congratulations!” Now this is never the way that I thought I would find out. I mean, I never would have pictured myself at work, on the toilet. But I’ll take it! I walk out of the bathroom and can’t stop smiling. I have to find Bryan. Where is he? He’s not in his office, so I start calling his cell phone. No answer. This rarely happens…he always answers! I hang up and call again. By now I realize that he is in the office next to mine with the door closed on a conference call. He has to know that I know something…he should answer! So I decide to get on the phone to try to call and cancel the injections. As long as they had not shipped they could cancel them and credit my credit card. Thankfully…it was right in time, so we saved $1300! So now I’m sitting, smiling, waiting for him to come out. He walks in and asks, “So?” (Like he couldn’t tell by the huge smile on my face.) He pats me on the back and says…”Don’t tell anyone yet.” That’s not the reaction that I expected, but we were at work and we really couldn’t celebrate…yet. :)
(Sorry for such a long post, but I had to catch everyone up on everything. I promise my future posts will be much shorter.)
